AUTOMAN MY WHOLE LIFE

‘My Whole Life’ is our favourite track from London-based quartet Automan’s debut EP, Vegetables. It’s a majestic opener to the EP, with their sound feeling simultaneously vintage and modern, with the influence of Elliot Smith and Pavement being played against a sound that borrows from shoegaze and modern, underground grunge bands. Simultaneously, the sonic world they craft is warm and dynamic, building slowly across the track’s melodic three minutes. The track “explores the process of Automan justifying our own creative output and trying to find our musical place. Sometimes, I'm coming off stage and I'm like "was I even there? Am I qualified to do this?" We're finding our own self-worth, doubting it, getting drunk off that, and turning it into something euphoric.” Their new five-track offering, Vegetables, is out now via Undisclosed Society. -Dan Peeke
